Information-

RESOURCE ROOM is for students who meet eligibility criteria (evaluation through the Guidance Department and AEA-267 and Grade School Placement is required). An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed to provide instruction in basic academic skills, assistance with content area course work, and planning for transition from high school to post-secondary programs and careers. The IEP is based on demonstrated needs as identified through testing and classroom evaluations in conjunction with AEA-267 support and parental involvement. Educational supplementary and complementary services are also provided through AEA-267. All instruction takes place on an individual or small group basis. The general format includes description and demonstration by the instructor followed by student practice in which mastery criteria will be expected. Field trips, video tapes, computer-assisted instruction, as well as alternative and extra credit work to complement content area classes and alternative testing methods may be used. Progress in content area classes is monitored.

Parents of students in the Resource Room will be required to meet with the Resource Room Instructor during regular parent/teacher conference times, usually in early November and late March.

The student will:

  • Participate in direct instruction in learning strategies, study skills, career planning, thinking skills, problem solving, decision making and basic academic skills.

  • Develop an understanding of and a strategy for using personal learning styles.

  • Be afforded methods to accommodate and adjust for individual learning styles in order to meet the requirements of content area class work.
