Bentley is sponsoring there fourth annual Tomorrow25 competition, a leadership program designed to honor 25 high-achieving juniors who are already making things happen in their schools, communities, and beyond -- and appear to be well on their way to becoming tomorrow's leaders of business and society. Any Junior student who might be interested in being a part of EHC2---Exploring HealthCare Careers Consortium---please see Mrs. Sweeney in the Guidance Office. The program allows students to earn college credit in High School, get paid for workplace experience, participate in job shadowing opportunities, and earn money towards your college education.

Attention juniors and seniors the ASVAB test will be given here at Columbus on Monday, November 26th, from 7:30 to 10:30AM. This battery of tests can help students who are really unsure about what career they may wish to pursue by evaluating the student's unique aptitudes in ten areas, ranging from auto and shop knowledge to numerical operations. There is a sign up sheet in the guidance office for interested students. Deadline to sign-up is November 15th.

Alexandria Technical College is having an open house on Sunday, October 28th from 1 to 4. Location is Alexandria, MN.

Wilderness Ventures located in Jackson Hole, WY has scholarship money available for students interested in participating in their summer programs. Check the poster outside of the guidance office for more information.

Cottey College an all girl school in Nevada, Missouri is offering an opportunity for any sophomore, junior or senior to visit their campus. If interested stop in the guidance office for more information.

The Better Business Bureau has announced plans for its annual program to honor Students of Integrity. Criteria for the scholarship award includes leadership, community service, integrity and academic history. Winners will be presented with a $1,000 scholarship to an accredited school of his/her choice. Columbus is allowed to submit only one canidate, if interested stop in the guidance office for an application to be returned to us for consideration. Applications will have to be returned to us no later than November 30th.

The University of Wisconsin at Platteville is offering two workshops for girls 8th - 12th grade. For more information stop in the guidance office.

Capri College is having a Career Fair on Wednesday, October 31st from 12:00 to 3:00pm, at Capri College in Cedar Rapids. Flyer with more information is posted on the bulletin board outside the guidance office.

The Golden Circle College Fair will be held on Sunday September 30th from 12:30 to 3:00pm at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines. Flyer with more information is posted on the bulletin board outside the guidance office.

Simpson College is having a High School Theatre Festival October 8th. Scholarships will be awarded that weekend. More information is in the guidance office.

Iowa State University is offering a Career Conference for Girls. The conference is being sponsored by ISU's Program for Women in Science and Engineering, the conferences goal is to expose girls, 9th - 12th, to career paths within science, technology, engineering and math. In the morning participants hear from professional women; in the afternoon they participate in hands-on activities or tours. Conference dates are October 11 grades 9 - 12, October 18 grades 6 - 9, October 25 grades 6 - 9. Go to www.pwse.iastate.edu for more information.

The 2008 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards - - What are Prudential Spirit of Community Awards? They were created in 1995 to recognize students in middle and high school who have demonstrated exemplary community service. If interested more information is in the guidance office.

The Council for America's First Freedom announces the 15th annual First Freedom Student Competition. This first-semester national essay contest offers 9th - 12th grade students an opportunity to compete for a $750 - $3,000 award, as they examine the First Amendment and the history and relevance of religion freedom in America and the world today. Iowa State University College of Engineering is holding its Senior Visitation Day on Friday, September 21st. Learn about engineering careers, talk with engineering students and faculty, tour the College of Engineering. Students may view the schedule and register at www.engineering.iastate.edu/srvis. They will receive a confirmation letter and directions a few weeks before the program.

University of Notre Dame invites students and parents to attend an information program Wednesday, September 5th at 6:30 p.m. at Dowling High School Auditorium, 1400 Buffalo Rd., West DesMoines, IA.

The Iowa Senate, House of Representatives, and LSA are inviting Iowa high school juniors and seniors to apply for Page positions for the 2008 session of the Iowa General Assembly. Information booklets are in the guidance office.

Plans are being made for the fall YLA Leadership Conference. It will be October 30th. Keynote speaker will be Ann Kerian. Theme will be on values and leadership. More information will be coming in September.
